Know when a door or window changes from closed to open
The MOES ZSS-S01-GWM-C uses a sensor and a separate magnet to report opening and closing through a compatible Tuya Zigbee gateway. Check the reported status in the app, enable the notifications you need and use a change of state as a condition for a compatible smart-home scene.
This is a magnetic contact sensor, not a camera, motion detector or smart lock. It detects the magnet moving closer or farther away; it does not identify people or animals or physically secure the door.
Zigbee connection through a gateway
Add a compatible Tuya Zigbee gateway to the app first, then add the sensor to that gateway. The sensor does not connect directly to Wi-Fi.
MOES, Smart Life and Tuya Smart
The manufacturer manual supports MOES App, Tuya Smart and Smart Life with a compatible gateway. App menus and available integrations can differ; check the options shown for your sensor.
Open/closed status and notifications
View door status and enable opening or closing notifications in the app. Test both transitions after installation and check that notifications reach your phone.
Replaceable battery with a low-power alert
A replaceable CR2032 battery at 3 V powers the sensor. Enable the supported low-battery alert and replace the battery when needed; no fixed battery-life duration is promised.
Install and pair before relying on a reading
Position the sensor and magnet
- Choose a firm indoor surface that stays dry. Put one part on the frame and the other on the moving door or window so that opening separates them. Keep nearby magnetic objects or magnetic metal from interfering with operation.
- Align the marked side of the magnet with the middle-line mark on the sensor, following the manual diagram. The stated trigger distance is 20 ± 5 mm with correct alignment; do not treat that as a guaranteed mounting gap on every surface.
- Before final attachment, hold the parts in the intended positions and open and close the door several times while checking the app. Fix them with the double-sided adhesive once the alignment and state changes work correctly.
Add it to your Zigbee gateway
- Slide the rear cover in the arrow direction, remove the battery insulation tab if present and securely refit the cover. Check the CR2032 battery orientation if replacing it.
- Make sure the compatible Zigbee or multi-mode gateway is already connected in MOES, Smart Life or Tuya Smart. Open the gateway and choose Add New Device.
- Keep the sensor close to the gateway for setup. Hold its configuration button for more than 6 seconds until the white indicator flashes quickly, then follow the app prompts. If pairing fails, repeat pairing mode and try again.
- Name the sensor for the actual door or window. Test open and closed states at the final location, enable the desired notifications and test any scene you create.
Useful everyday examples
Turn on a light when the door opens
Create a scene with the sensor changing to open as the condition and a compatible smart lamp or switch turning on as the action. You need the linked Zigbee gateway and a separate light or switch supporting that action in the same scene. This is an example automation, not a light-control function the sensor performs alone; check that both condition and action are available and test the result.
Review activity and share access
The app can show opening and closing records and share device access with family members. The official product page describes up to 7 days of event history; check the retention and features available in your current app/service rather than assuming unlimited storage.
Supported voice integrations can query the reported door status. A status reply is not proof that a door is locked, and the sensor cannot open, close or lock it.

Requirements and practical limits
- A compatible Tuya Zigbee gateway added to the app is required. Place the sensor within its working coverage; direct Wi-Fi pairing is not supported.
- Use indoors only. The manual excludes outdoor installation, rain-exposed locations and weak mounting surfaces. Nearby magnetic objects can disturb detection.
- Phone notifications depend on the battery, sensor-to-gateway connection, gateway network/cloud availability and phone/app notification permissions. A delayed or missing alert must not be treated as proof that the door stayed closed.
- Test the open/closed response and your automation after installation, battery replacement or repositioning. The contact state does not tell you whether a latch or lock is secure.
Coin-cell battery care
Keep new and used batteries away from children and securely close the battery compartment. Stop using the product if the compartment cannot close securely. Use the specified CR2032 with the correct polarity; do not recharge a non-rechargeable cell, and follow the manufacturer’s battery disposal instructions.
If the state or notification looks wrong
- Check the battery and any insulation tab, then check that the gateway and sensor are online in the app.
- Check the alignment marks and actual separation of the two parts. Move nearby magnetic objects away and test again at the final installation position.
- If state changes appear in the app but no phone alert arrives, check the sensor’s notification toggles and the phone’s app permissions and background restrictions.
- If a scene does not run, confirm that the sensor condition and the separate device action are supported, then test both devices before repeating the scene.
Common questions
Which apps are supported?
The manual supports MOES App, Tuya Smart and Smart Life when the sensor is connected to a compatible gateway.
Does it work directly with Wi-Fi?
No. The sensor communicates by Zigbee and needs a compatible gateway already added to the app.
Does it detect a person or sound an alarm by itself?
It detects the magnet moving closer or farther away, not people or motion. Phone alerts are configured in the app; an audible scene requires a separate compatible alarm device.
Can I fit it outside or on any metal frame?
The manual does not permit outdoor or rain-exposed installation. Nearby magnetic metal or objects can interfere; test alignment and detection on the intended indoor surface before fixing it.
Does “closed” mean the door is locked?
No. It is the sensor’s reported contact state, not a check of the lock or latch. Confirm that the parts are correctly aligned and do not treat it as a security guarantee.
