Circuit protection, electricity information and Wi-Fi control together
The TOSMR1-40JWT combines a residual-current circuit breaker with overcurrent protection (RCBO), energy monitoring and app control. Check a suitable single-phase circuit, arrange its operating times and review electrical information while retaining a physical operating handle at the distribution board.
This listing is for the CHAYO 40 A, Type AC, Wi-Fi version. Other communication versions and residual-current types are different products, even when their housings look similar.
Direct 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi
Connects to a 2.4 GHz router without a Zigbee hub. Away-from-site control requires working Wi-Fi and internet services.
Tuya Smart / Smart Life
Switch the circuit, check its state and review measurements in the app, with supported Alexa and Google Assistant voice integration.
Electricity monitoring
View voltage, current, power and accumulated energy, then compare consumption across hours, days, months and years.
Schedules and delayed switching
Set suitable on/off times or use the documented delayed/countdown switching functions for compatible loads.
Understand what the circuit is using
The app reports voltage, current, power, accumulated forward energy and device/terminal temperature. The temperature reading concerns the breaker or its terminal area; it is not a room-temperature sensor.
Hourly, daily, monthly and yearly consumption views help compare operating periods. The operation log and illustrated circuit-status notifications can also help you understand when a circuit was switched or reported an abnormal condition. Notification delivery depends on app permissions, network connectivity and service availability.
These readings support monitoring and comparison, not a definitive fault diagnosis or certified utility billing. No fixed energy-saving percentage or unlimited history retention is promised.
On/off control, voice and timing
Use Smart Life or Tuya Smart to switch the circuit and check its state. Supported Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant integration provides voice on/off control through linked accounts. Remote functions require the breaker to be powered and connected to its Wi-Fi network and relevant internet services.
App timing can arrange on/off events, including documented delayed/countdown switching. The physical handle provides local operation without opening your phone. Available app layouts and settings may vary with firmware.
Protection functions and adjustable settings
Unlike a smart relay that only adds monitoring and switching, this model is an RCBO. The manufacturer documents overload, short-circuit and residual-current functions, together with configurable electronic monitoring for overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent, overpower and terminal/device temperature.
The app illustrations include threshold settings and choices such as alarm or trip for configurable functions. A qualified electrician must select the appropriate settings and protection coordination. Supplier screenshot values are examples, not universal defaults to copy. The 40 A rating is not permission to connect any load up to a calculated wattage without considering wiring, starting current and installation requirements.
Automatic reclosing needs a deliberate decision
Automatic reclosing is available as a configurable function. It may be useful where a professionally assessed circuit can appropriately return to service after a recoverable condition. Before enabling it, establish whether unexpected restart could create a hazard.
Exact options and retry sequences depend on the installed revision. Do not repeatedly reset a persistent fault or assume that every trip will safely clear itself.
Why Type AC matters
Type AC describes the residual-current waveform the device is intended to detect: sinusoidal alternating residual current. It is not interchangeable with Type A, Type F or Type B simply because the current rating is the same.
The stocked device is marked C40 and IΔn 0.03 A (30 mA). The 40 A marking concerns rated load current; the 30 mA marking concerns residual current. Have the electrician confirm that this Type AC device, its actual settings and the installation suit the connected loads and applicable local requirements. Do not assume suitability for EV charging, inverter equipment or every electronic load.
Physical controls and status indicators
The front includes an operating handle, test button, contact-indication window, status display, LED and a CFG/QUERY button. The manufacturer's guide describes a short press of CFG/QUERY for viewing status information and a long press of approximately 5–10 seconds for network configuration.
- Steady blue: disconnected/off state; steady red: connected/on state.
- Rapidly flashing red: pairing mode. Slowly flashing red: initial state in the supplied guide.
- Slow alternating red/blue: configured but not connected to the router. Fast alternating red/blue: configuration lost, as described in the guide.
Practical uses for an appropriately assessed circuit
These are conditional applications, not blanket load approvals. A schedule does not make every appliance safe to leave unattended, and automatic restart must be suitable for the connected equipment.
- A shop or workshop circuit: compare working days with closed days, use the operation log to understand switching events and arrange compatible loads around opening hours.
- A suitable heating or hot-water circuit: compare consumption before and after a schedule change. Appliance thermostats, protective devices and manufacturer instructions still apply; no guaranteed saving is implied.
- A separately monitored room or service area: review that circuit's energy use rather than guessing from the whole-building bill. This does not make the device a certified tenant-billing meter.
- An assessed circuit at another location: check readings and status remotely when its internet connection is available, and receive supported notifications. Investigate abnormalities rather than treating a phone notification as a complete diagnosis.

Setup without guesswork
- Have a qualified electrician assess the circuit, load, Type AC suitability, protective coordination and enclosure, and install the device according to its matching manual. Do not work on live wiring.
- After installation, confirm a usable 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi signal at the board. Install Smart Life or Tuya Smart and prepare the network credentials.
- Use the documented pairing mode, select Add Device in the app and follow the Wi-Fi version's guide. Do not substitute Zigbee, RS485 or another model's instructions because its housing looks similar.
- Give the circuit a clear name and check its readings. Have the electrician review adjustable thresholds and automatic-restart behaviour before relying on them.
- Add suitable schedules and notification permissions. Link voice services only if supported by your account and region.
Before you choose it
Does it need a hub?
No Zigbee hub is required for this Wi-Fi version. It connects to a 2.4 GHz router. Remote app and voice functions need their relevant network and internet services.
Are 40 A and 30 mA the same setting?
No. 40 A is the rated load-current marking; 30 mA is the residual-current marking. The electrician must verify the actual settings and their suitability for the circuit.
Can I use a supplier screenshot as my settings guide?
No. Screenshot values illustrate the app. Available settings can differ by revision, and the correct values depend on the actual circuit and connected equipment.
